It looks as though DRM-laced music is wheezing its last, evil breaths. Apple just announced at the Steveless Macworld that 8 million songs in the iTunes store are now DRM-free, thanks in part to a new deal with the major record labels that will allow them to charge either $0.69 or $1.29 per song. It's unclear if other price tiers will also follow. According to Apple’s Phil Schiller, all 10 million songs in the iTunes store will be available sans-DRM by the end of this quarter. As if that wasn’t enough, iPhone owners can now purchase and download songs over 3G, for the same price and with the same quality as downloads from the desktop.
And just kidding about the puppies and kittens thing. But a new $2,799 17-inch MacBook Pro is on the way later this month, with a battery that will reportedly let you look at Lolcats for up to 8 hours using integrated graphics, according to Apple. Can you handle that much cuteness? Can you?
